The bus ride from Puerto Escondido to Huatulco makes one stop along the way, in a small town. That’s where this beauty hopped on, offering us tortas milenesa.
Riding this bus made me think of the days, more than 30 years ago, when I would board the Grey Goose in Winnipeg for a weekend trip to Gimli. I couldn’t wait to get home and dreaded having to go back to the city on Sunday night. Sadly that route, and so many more in rural Canada, no longer run, encouraging a culture of one-person-one-vehicle.
In Mexico, everyone rides the bus from the labourer with bowed legs carrying his spade and extra large water jug, to the family of four, each with a cup of freshly-cut fruit in hand for the ride, to the vendor laden with baskets of homemade treats to sell in the next town. And even a gringa like me. #travelwriter#budgettravel#solotravel#puertoescondido#mexico#bus#tortas
I’ve only been here for a few hours but it was love at first sight. From the delicious vegan food I devoured at lunch to the futuristic architecture, the adorable little Canopy Hilton hotel, friendly locals and scenic beauty all around make this city so special for me. Oh, I also made a puffin friend named Ollie (inspiration for the porg in Star Wars). Off to the evening local food and drink tasting at the hotel!
