The city of Issaquah has experienced explosive growth in the last 15 years and unfortunately a highly visible portion of Cougar Mountain is being threatened by a scarring development. 45 acres of pristine land proposed for development could change the Issaquah Alps forever. 60% of this land encompasses critical areas with 27 acres holding wetlands, streams and steep slopes. Residents from surrounding Cougar Mountain neighborhoods organized to oppose the proposed Development Agreement and the City Council voted unanimously against it. However, development can still occur under traditional codes. This 45-acre stretch of the Issaquah Alps lends itself perfectly to parkland, open space, and family friendly hiking.
