Bennett's left front pinky had to have its nail in removed surgically after he tore the crap out of it on the 7th. Any other vet would have pushed for amputation of the first knuckle of the finger/digit but their vet is an amazing surgeon and managed to remove the nail safely without needing to take the joint in toto.
On Thursday after Trauma Therapy we took him back to the vet as the night before the paw had swollen to twice its normal size and I was scared of infection.
No infection but we're doing a course of antibiotics to be safe while it heals. Today the swelling is much diminished. I'm washing it with saline and sterile gauze every time he uses the box and morning and night besides to keep it clean.
5 more days of anti-inflammatories. 9 more days of antibiotics. But no major surgery! No amputation! We are super lucky to have the vet we do.
