#BreadTimeStories : Sundried tomato and feta cheese challah bread 🥖
Ingredients: 2 cups all purpose flour. 1/2 cup lukewarm water. ½ packet active dried yeast (4 g). ½ tbsp sugar. 1 tbsp honey. 1 tsp salt. 1 egg plus extra for egg wash. 1/8 cup oil.
For filling: Feta cheese, sun dried tomatoes, oregano, garlic. You can use whatever filling you want, even something sweet like chocolate or sugar and cinnamon would go well with this bread.
Add the water, yeast and sugar in a bowl and mix lightly with a fork. Set aside for 15 minutes or till bubbly. Add the eggs, oil and honey and whisk.
If you are using a beater, then use the dough hook attachment. Add the flour and the salt and start mixing. As the dough begins to pull away from the bowl, put it on a dry lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes or until it bounces back when you touch it.
Oil a bowl and put the dough in it, moving it about till it’s completely covered with light layer. Rest for 40-90 minutes or until the volume doubles in a dry warm area.
Preheat the oven at 375 degrees F. Once your dough has proved, knock it back and divide in 3 equal portions. Roll out each ball in a thin long strand. If you want to add filling, then flatten the strand, add in your filling and seal it. Repeat with all three balls. Then braid them together like you would braid your hair! Apply a generous egg wash and sprinkle some additional herbs and salt (again, totally optional) and bake for 30 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F and bake for an additional 10 minutes. .
