“I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” John 17:15-18
Incarnation didn’t happen in heaven and identification doesn’t happen in church.
It has been said that Christians are in the world but not of the world. This is also stereotypically viewed as a license to separate the church from the world instead of integrate it into it. Jesus prayed and commanded just the opposite, sending His Church into the world just as the Father sent Him.
We are sent into the world to identify with those around us. Because we’re not of the world, we can’t help but intercede and pray for opportunities to witness Jesus - the only Way. This is God’s design and He perfectly demonstrated it in the life of Jesus, pray for us all to be like Him. “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8
