To all the mommas out there! This one is for you.
I will never forget that fist day when I returned to flying. Dom was 8 months old and being away from him for that first night, that first day was frightening to me. It wasn’t about not trusting my husband to care for him. It was not trusting my mother to help care for him. It was my own internal battle of question myself, if I was making the right decision. It was the MOMMY GUILT! Can you relate? I felt so guilty leaving my baby and not being there for him at night, to kiss him and hug his chicks. I put millions of different scenarios of what could possibly go wrong. What if I wasn’t there when my baby needed me? Mommy guilt haunted me for months. My son on the other hand? My son was well taken care of, my hubs did an outstanding job caring for him, my mom, his Nonna and family were an amazing support to us. My point here: Mommies! Let go of that guilt. First, you’re not doing yourself any favor by constantly guilting yourself into thinking you’re not good enough of a mom. Second, you’re not doing any good to your loved ones. They see you anxious, sad and stressed out instead of confident about the career choices you’re making. Not being present for every single event at school doesn’t make you less of a mother! Not spending entire day with your child does not make you less of a mother. Having full time job and traveling for work does not make you less of a mother! Owning your business and having passion, dreams to make it successful while contributing hours to make it all work, does NOT make you less of a mother! Teaching your child independence, letting your child know that you can be the mommy, while also being a girl boss, following your dreams is the most powerful gift you can provide. So, instead of feeling guilty, show confidence that your choices matter, show confidence that your dreams matter, show that your strength matters, show that women do not have to apologize for wanting more, for wanting same that men want, that women can be girl bosses, that it’s a ok for a mommy to travel for work, just like it’s a ok for daddy to do that, it’s ok to work on your business just like it’s ok for daddy to do so.
