Twice a week I volunteer at a therapeutic riding facility for mentally and physically challenged individuals. •
I came upon this farm when my son started therapy lessons here for his challenges. •
It was never my intention to volunteer more than a few days a month or even every six months on the farm. But something kept calling me to this place. Something bigger than I. One day I was dropping my children off at camp and the owner and I started started talking about my background in non-profit agencies. •
After a lengthy conversation and a lot of tears, I knew I was called to volunteer on a regular basis. A little background - this non profit farm is ran with 100% volunteer employees. I now am the Marketing Coordinator for the farm and work 8-10 hours a week and sometimes more. •
I work this around my daily schedule and it’s something I take just as serious as a paying job. It’s extremely rewarding and therapeutic for me to give back. •
My point is, when you are down and losing hope, depressed, anxious, suffering from something you can’t control get out and volunteer. Anything from feeding the homeless or working at a facility where you are needed for any amount of work.
It not only helps them but it will help you to.
