The rear wing of the Carrera GT is actuated above 70mph. During initial development, Porsche engineers discovered that it was taking the hydraulic actuators about 6 secs to fully elevate the wing. This was too slow as the rapid speeds obtained demanded faster deployment and downforce contribution. Porsche engineers recalibrated the hydraulics to about 4 secs total deployment time which was just right. Approx 120kg of downforce is generated by the wing at 300km/h (independent of undertray/diffuser). In addition, the ECU deploys the wing if it senses “spirited” driving (ie repetitive quick accelerations) and stays deployed.
